After a few research trips and a lot of boat shopping, we have settled on a
RoundAbout is a 2012 Leopard 46 catamaran. She is the 4-cabin 4 head version (she actually has a 2 additional crew cabins, but we use those for storage). (Our first RoundAbout was the 2010 model).
Stats:
Length: 46' 4"
Beam: 24' 10"
Draft: 4.5" (we can get into some pretty shallow spots)
More details here. We have decided to list Roundabout for sale, as we need to return to land life for awhile. Believe us, we'd much rather continue on sailing, as we really want to explore the south pacific islands! However, things on land need tending to, spending some time with family, jobs, kids approaching high school years.....and so we are putting our pirate life on hold for a bit. We'd love for Roundabout to find a great crew to continue on. Please contact us if you think you'd fit that description. =)
Here's the layout:
We moved aboard RoundAbout1.0 a week before hurricanes Irma and Maria hit in the BVI. We were devastated to lose our home, but we are a stubborn and determined crew, and not about to give up! We have purchased RoundAbout2.0 in the Med and are setting sail from there!
I just read about your family on the ditching Suburbia blog and came here. Good luck to you! It sounds like you have the necessary attitude and sufficient resources to make it happen for yourselves.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting our blog and the kind thoughts. We are pretty determined to make this dream happen and appreciate all of the support! =)
DeleteWe are in Aegina and your boat (and dog) caught our eye. We also have a golden retriever. And 3 children. 4th, 1st, and kindergartens next year. Thanks for sharing, what a great story!
ReplyDeleteHI! Thanks for the note. We just left Aegina as we needed to reach our next anchorage before the winds picked back up. The kids just told us they waved to a family on the dock, was that you? If so, apologies for not paying attention. Jared and I sort of go into autopilot when prepping to leave and untying lines. =)
DeleteI saw him wave, but don’t think it was to us.
ReplyDeleteWe were up on a 2nd floor balcony at a nearby restaurant, eating our lunch.
I took some photos and videos of your departure, in case you wanted some, figured it was a perspective you never get.
We head back to Athens ourselves tomorrow.
My kids wanted to know where your next destination is, and where you’ve been.
Thank you! We’d love the footage and photos you took. It will be fun to see from that perspective. Our email is svroundabout@gmail.com =)
DeleteWe left for the island of Kythnos to spend the Easter holiday and shelter from the N winds that were predicted for the weekend.
As for where we have been so far: Hydra, Poros, Aegina, various ports along the mainland, Kythnos, and Milos. We are sailing south to visit the rest of the Cyclades, before returning North to visit Croatia. Thanks for following along and if your kids would like to write to ours, they enjoy having pen-pals to write to. ~Stefanie
